About Canine Community Center
Canine Community Center is a home-based dog training business just north of Spokane, Washington, serving dog owners across the Spokane area and Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Through board and train, in-home training, group classes and puppy training, we help families turn everyday problems like pulling, jumping and ignored commands into a calm, well-behaved dog they can take anywhere.
Meet Shayla LaMonica, Owner & Head Trainer
Shayla LaMonica grew up in the dog world. Her mom was a dog groomer, and in kindergarten Shayla was already telling her class she wanted to be a dog trainer. She has been training dogs for over 13 years.
After starting out in Spokane, Shayla moved to Seattle to train professionally, but quickly found the big-city facilities overcrowded and run like a business. So she came home to Spokane and founded Canine Community Center to train dogs the way they should be trained: with care and love, and with real attention for every dog.
A Few Dogs at a Time: Quality Over Quantity
Canine Community Center is intentionally small. Shayla only takes a few board and train dogs at a time, and they live with her in her home, not in a kennel with dozens of other dogs.
Your dog gets real one-on-one attention every day and is cared for like one of Shayla’s own dogs. Training in a real home also means your dog learns the manners that matter in yours: settling on furniture, greeting guests politely and staying calm through everyday routines.
Balanced Training That Works in Real Life
We use a balanced approach of praise, structure and accountability, so your dog gets clear, consistent information and learns to make good choices with confidence.
Training happens where life happens: in stores, parks and busy places around Spokane, not just a quiet training room. And because training only lasts when the people at home know how to keep it going, every program includes hands-on coaching for you. Board and train and in-home training clients also get lifetime access to group classes to keep practicing.
Always Learning, Always Giving Back
Great trainers never stop learning. In September 2026, Shayla completed the Method K9 2-Day Seminar, adding new tools for the dogs that need it most.
Outside of her own clients, Shayla volunteers at her local shelter, doing behavior evaluations and training plans that help hard-to-adopt dogs find homes, and she works with local rescues across the Spokane area.
