We had family member”s watch our German shepherd while my parents house got flooded and he lost most of his training. This included him starting to aggressively bark at people and not being able to be calm. Shayla had done more than an excellent job in being able to train our dog figgy we can now take him on walks without worrying about him barking or being aggressive. Our dog figgy stated a bit of separation anxiety and even though my husband and I had kennel trained since he was puppy he just wasn’t able to be left home alone. Now he knows specific commands and is able to be in a kennel by himself. I’m so thankful for Shayla because I don’t know what we would have done without her.

i’ve had the best experience with Canine Community. I took my dog Ellie to Shayla and she did two week training session and I’ve also boarded her there. I would highly recommend this business to anyone needing help with training, and boarding. She treats my dog Ellie the way I treat her with lots of love and care.

Thank you for taking such great care of my baby during her 6 week board and train. We sent our Stella to Shayla when we found out we were going to be having our first little one and knew that Stella could be territorial. Our son just turned 1 and they are still best friends with no problems! We couldn’t be more happy with canine community center.

Shayla knows what she is doing! She has helped me and my dogs so much! I did do the 2 week board and train with one of mine that is particularly stubborn and thinks for herself as she is half German Shepherd and half Great Pyrenees! I do I have a working line 9 week old puppy and plan on sending him as soon as he’s old enough! I promise you she’s the best trainer in Spokane!

If you want a calm, well balanced, well behaved dog, Shayla is the one to go with. She took my BIG GSD 6 months old from super active out of control craziness to a nice calm and controlled dog with confidence. I can now take him in stores with no issues. Can go to the park “off leash” with confidence. You will not be disappointed ‼️

We sent our dog for training with Shayla for two weeks. She updated us along the way and sent videos. Our 2 1/2 year old Sammy was very anxious and struggled with the door bell, aggressive behavior and barking. Shayla found out what our bell sounded like and played it at her home for hours to desensitize his fear. She taught him several commands and even worked on “place” for him to go when he needs to calm down or if someone is coming to the door. She spent 3 sessions with my husband and I to show us what he was learning and what to do. Since he has been home he has continued to show what he learned with Shayla. He sits, lies down and goes to his place on command. Shayla’s kindness, expertise and consistency when training our dog was more than we even expected. I could tell when she returned him that they had created a wonderful bond and we will be sending him for boarding in the future. I would highly recommend her for dog training. She is simply the best!

My baby girl Nellie is a whole different, better version of herself! Shayla took her in for the two week Board N Train as I recently had back surgery and she did amazing things! I have a husky chow mix and she is just a hyper, diligent, alpha little female and Shayla turned her into the most caring, well behaved girl I’ve ever met! The commands are simple and so easy to reinforce at home. I am so pleased with all Nellie has learned. My 7 year old is confident to take her out to potty now, he isn’t scared she will pull him down the stairs and loves practicing her commands with her. Highly recommend Shayla, she truly is a Godsend! Forever thankful.

Canine Community Center did a wonderful job training our reactive dog Trigger. He came with that name and it described him perfectly but after training with Shayla I’m able to take him out walking in our busy neighborhood.

Dog Boarding: Big Facility vs. a Home Stay

Plenty of Spokane pet boarding facilities are clean and well run. A home stay is simply a different experience, and for a lot of dogs it’s a happier one.

Typical large facility

  • Dozens of dogs under one roof
  • Lots of barking and noise at night
  • Staff that changes from shift to shift
  • Manners can slide during the stay
  • Shy or older dogs can feel overwhelmed
  • A run or suite down a long hallway

Boarding with Shayla

  • A few dogs at a time, in a real home
  • A calm, quiet house at bedtime
  • One trainer who gets to know your dog
  • Good manners kept up while you’re away
  • A gentle setting for shy and senior dogs
  • Lives in the house and follows its routine

Dog Boarding in a Trainer’s Home

At Canine Community Center, boarding dogs stay in Shayla’s home in Nine Mile Falls, just north of Spokane. Shayla keeps only a few dogs at a time on purpose, so every dog gets real attention and is cared for like one of her own.

Shayla trained professionally in Seattle before coming home to Spokane to build something smaller and more personal. Quality over quantity is the whole idea, for training and for boarding.

Your dog is a guest in a household where someone who has worked with thousands of dogs gets to know them, keeps them comfortable and notices right away if something seems off.

  • A few dogs at a time, by choice
  • One experienced trainer caring for your dog
  • Your dog’s meals, walks and bedtime kept familiar
  • A quiet household instead of a busy building

Come Home to the Same Good Dog

After a trip, you want your dog to come home as the same dog you dropped off, with every bit of the progress you’ve worked for.

Boarding with a professional trainer makes that easy. Shayla holds your dog to the rules they already know: sit before the door opens, wait for the food bowl, settle when it’s time to rest. If your dog has trained with us, she knows exactly what they’ve learned and expects it.

Tell us about your dog’s routine at the meet and greet, from mealtimes and walks to how they like to sleep, and we’ll keep things as familiar as we can.

  • Door manners and calm greetings stay in place
  • Leash skills keep getting practiced
  • Familiar cues from someone who knows them
  • Structure that helps nervous dogs relax in a new place

Make the Time Away Count

Boarding pairs naturally with training, so the time apart can do even more for your dog.

Board and train

If you’ll be away anyway, a 2, 4 or 6 week board and train turns that time into progress. Your dog lives in Shayla’s home and trains in real places around Spokane. At pickup she walks you through everything they learned, and you get lifetime access to our group classes.

Boarding after training

Already trained with us? Boarding keeps the momentum going. Your dog returns to a familiar home and a trainer who knows their cues and keeps good habits strong.

Pickup and drop-off

Our pet taxi is available for training clients, which helps if you live in Spokane Valley, Liberty Lake or across town. Boarding-only guests are dropped off and picked up at Shayla’s home in Nine Mile Falls.

Is Home Boarding Right for Your Dog?

Our boarding is a great fit for dogs who enjoy a calm household: sensitive dogs, older dogs, puppies and dogs who like a little more one-on-one attention. Because there are only a few dogs at a time, every dog starts with a free meet and greet, so we can make sure the stay is a good match for them and for the dogs already here.

A few honest notes. We offer overnight boarding only; we do not offer daycare. Spots are limited because we keep the group small, so reach out early before holidays and summer travel.

We’re in Nine Mile Falls, a straightforward drive from North Spokane, Mead, Deer Park and Airway Heights. You get to enjoy your trip knowing your dog is with someone who cares, and pick up a happy, relaxed dog at the end of it.

Boarding Questions

How much does dog boarding cost per day in Spokane?

It depends on the length of the stay and what your dog needs. At your free meet and greet, Shayla meets your dog, talks through the routine you want kept and gives you an exact quote, with no pressure to book.

Is it better to leave a dog at home or at daycare?

It depends on your dog. A pet sitter at home suits some relaxed dogs, but many get lonely or restless with only short visits each day. Doggie daycare covers daytime hours only, so it doesn’t solve an overnight trip, and we don’t offer daycare. For overnight travel, a home stay with a trainer gives your dog company, structure and a quiet place to sleep.

How much do vets charge to board a dog?

It varies from clinic to clinic, so call your vet for their rates. Vet boarding can make sense for a dog with medical needs who should be near a veterinary team. For healthy dogs, a calm home with an experienced trainer is often a more relaxed experience. We’ll give you an exact quote for boarding with us at your free meet and greet.

Where is your dog boarding located?

Dogs stay in Shayla’s home in Nine Mile Falls, just north of Spokane, with only a few dogs at a time. Your dog lives in the house and follows the household routine. It’s a convenient drop-off for owners in North Spokane, Mead and Deer Park, and an easy trip from Spokane Valley and Liberty Lake.

Do you offer pickup and drop-off for boarding?

Pickup and drop-off (our pet taxi) is available for training clients only. If your dog is booked for boarding alone, you’ll drop off and pick up at Shayla’s home.

What happens at the boarding meet and greet?

You tour Shayla’s home and see where your dog will stay. Shayla meets your dog in person, sees how your dog handles a new person and a new place, and talks through the routine you want kept: meals, walks, bedtime and any quirks. You’ll also get a few training tips you can use right away, whether or not you book.

How many dogs do you board at once?

Only a few at a time. Keeping the group small is the point: your dog gets individual attention in a quiet home and is cared for like one of Shayla’s own.

Can my dog get training while boarding?

Yes. If you want real progress while you’re away, ask about our 2, 4 or 6 week board and train program. If your dog has already trained with us, regular boarding keeps their manners sharp because Shayla knows exactly what they’ve learned.
