Shayla walks you through everything your dog learned, shows you each command and coaches you hands-on, so you get the same response at home that she gets.
Lifetime group class access
After board and train, you get access to our group classes for the lifetime of your dog: a place and a support group to practice your skills, keep everything your dog learned and ask questions whenever they come up.
The Dog You Drop Off vs. the One You Pick Up
Every dog is different, but these are the changes Spokane families come to us for most often.
Life right now
- Puppy biting and accidents on the rug
- Your dog pulls you down the street on walks
- Your dog ignores you around distractions
- Off-leash time is out of the question
- Barking and lunging at every dog you pass
- Growling or guarding puts you on edge
- Chewed doors and panic when you leave
Life after board and train
- A puppy with a potty routine, gentle play and good manners
- Loose-leash walks you actually look forward to
- Commands that work the first time, even around distractions
- Reliable off-leash recall at the park and on the trail
- Calm walks past other dogs, people and bikes
- A safer, calmer dog, and the confidence to handle any situation
- A dog who can relax at home while you’re out
Choose 2, 4 or 6 Weeks
The right length depends on what your dog needs to learn. Here is how we usually match the board and train program to the dog in front of us.
2 weeks: manners and obedience
A solid foundation for the stubborn teenager or the sweet dog with no off switch: sit, down, place, loose-leash walking, coming when called and polite greetings.
4 weeks: advanced obedience
For dogs ready for more: reliable off-leash recall, longer stays, heeling through busy places and commands that work at a distance. You get a dog you can trust at the park, on the trail and anywhere around Spokane. Also a great fit for stubborn habits that need extra time.
6 weeks: behavior cases
Built for reactive, fearful or aggressive dogs that need patient, steady work. Six weeks gives Shayla plenty of time to modify your dog’s behavior and change the way they react, so walks get calmer, guests feel safe again and you finally stop bracing for the next outburst.
Lifetime Group Classes Keep It Going
Training is not a two-week event. Dogs test the rules again once they are home, and the weeks after pickup decide whether new habits stick. That is why every board and train client gets lifetime access to our small group classes of up to about 8 to 10 dogs.
Group classes give you and your dog a place to sharpen what was learned around other dogs and real distractions, ask Shayla questions as new situations come up and keep your skills fresh for the life of your dog. No starting over, and no guessing when an old habit tries to sneak back in.

Trained in Spokane Stores, Not a Bubble
A dog that sits perfectly in a quiet room can still fall apart in the cereal aisle. That is why board and train dogs leave the house with Shayla. They practice heeling past shopping carts, holding a down-stay on a busy store floor and staying calm while strangers walk by in parks around Spokane.
Real places teach a lesson a backyard never can: listening still counts when something exciting is happening.
The method is simple and fair: plenty of praise, clear structure and accountability, adjusted to your dog’s temperament. Your dog learns what earns a yes and what is not an option, without guesswork or nagging.

Where Your Dog Sleeps Matters
Many board and train programs run out of a kennel facility. Your dog spends the night in a run, hears barking until morning and gets pulled out for a training block or two each day. That is a stressful place to learn, and it looks nothing like the house your dog is going back to.
At Canine Community Center, board and train dogs live with Shayla in her home in Nine Mile Falls, just north of Spokane. She takes only a few dogs at a time, so yours is cared for like one of her own and trained by the same person from the first day to the last.
A home teaches manners where manners matter: at the front door, near the kitchen counter and in the daily rhythm of a family. If the doorbell sends your dog into a frenzy, Shayla works on that exact trigger, even playing the sound of a doorbell at her home, until it stops being a big deal.
- A few dogs at a time, never a crowded kennel
- One trainer, Shayla, from drop-off to pickup
- Daily structure that mirrors real family life
- Quality over quantity, by choice

Puppy Board and Train in Spokane
Puppies can do board and train too, and it can make the first months with a new dog far easier. Instead of fighting nipping, accidents and 2 a.m. crying on your own, your puppy spends time in Shayla’s home building good habits from the start: crate and potty routines, gentle handling, polite play and early manners like sit and place.
Young puppies soak up the world fast. Calm, controlled outings introduce new sounds, surfaces and people, so everyday life feels normal instead of scary, and your puppy grows into a confident, easy adult dog.
At your free consultation we’ll talk through your puppy’s age, needs and the right program length.

Board & Train Questions
How much does a 2-week board and train cost in Spokane?
It depends on your dog, the situation and what your dog needs. Every board and train is customized to your goals, so two dogs in the same two-week program can need very different amounts of work, and we don’t charge everyone the same flat rate for different situations. At your free consultation, Shayla meets your dog, builds a plan around your goals and gives you an exact quote, with no pressure to sign up.
Is board and train worth it?
For many families, yes. Your dog gets daily, consistent training from a professional for weeks, which is hard to match with an hour here and there. It pays off most when the owner learns too, which is why every program ends with a hands-on handoff and includes lifetime group classes. If you would rather be hands-on from day one, in-home training may fit better, and we will tell you honestly at the consultation.
Will my dog still listen to me after board and train?
That is the whole point of the pickup handoff. Shayla walks you through every command your dog learned, shows you how to use it and coaches you until it clicks. After that, lifetime group classes give you a place to keep practicing those behaviors and commands around other dogs and real distractions, so you never lose the progress.
What are the signs of a bad dog trainer?
Be careful with trainers who promise results without meeting your dog, will not explain how they train, keep dozens of dogs in kennels with little one-on-one time, or send your dog home without teaching you anything. A good trainer explains the plan, adjusts it to your dog and makes sure you can keep the results going.
Can my puppy do board and train?
Yes. Puppies can do board and train with Shayla, and it is a great way to build potty and crate routines, manners and confidence early. We will talk about your puppy’s age and needs at the free consultation and recommend the right length.
Where will my dog stay during board and train?
In Shayla’s home in Nine Mile Falls, just north of Spokane, with only a few dogs at a time. There’s no kennel building and no row of runs: your dog lives in the house and spends the day training and following the household routine. Your dog is cared for like one of her own.
Do you take reactive or aggressive dogs for board and train?
Yes. Our longer programs, especially the 6-week program, are built for reactive, fearful or aggressive dogs that need more time. Shayla evaluates your dog in person at the free consultation and recommends the right length.
